Have you ever wondered what the root causes of human and animal oppression are?

Dr. Harsini is a first generation immigrant, and an LGBT and human rights activist from Iran. He faced life-threatening situations because of his human rights activism which later shaped his approach to animal rights. Please join Dr. Harsini, as he discusses why animal rights is a social justice movement, how it relates to animal rights activism, and how understanding this connection can make us effective activists for the victims. He will also discuss the obstacles that slow down our movement.

Bio: Dr. Faraz Harsini has been an animal advocate for over a decade. He is a cultivated meat bioprocessing senior scientist at GFI, an AAM mentor, and an organizer for Anonymous for the Voiceless in Austin and Houston. He is also the founder and CEO of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP), a nonprofit that mentors and supports animal advocates, particularly student organizations, and provides a unified infrastructure for sustainable and effective animal advocacy on college campuses. He closely collaborates with PETA, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and other nonprofits and advocates for abolition of cruelty to animals. He has received awards and recognitions for his contributions to science and animal advocacy and was awarded PETA Campus Representative of the Year during his doctoral studies. Given his prior experience working in pharmaceutical companies and engaging in drug discovery, and infectious diseases, cancer, and clinical research, he is also an avid advocate of alternatives to animal testing.
