In this video tutorial I share with you my go-to soap recipe. It is an all natural, mild soap recipe that we use for everyone in my family, including our young children).

For complete measurements of ingredients please watch the video.

This is a pretty simple recipe to make but you have to be mindful of all basic soapmaking safety precautions. Because soapmaking involves a caustic ingredient like sodium hydroxide (100% lye) you should never attempt to make a soap batch in the presence of children.

If you have never made soap from scratch before I suggest you read up on the process especially the safety measures that should be taken. Soapmaking is a lot of fun but only if you know what you are doing and practice safety first!

If you are new to soapmaking I suggest you get some books on the subject, read some blogs, watch other YouTube videos, etc until you feel confident enough to give it a try.

This recipe is pretty basic and only requires 4 oils- olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil. The lye water solution in this recipe is VERY CONCENTRATED so extra safety precautions must be taken. Wear gloves, long sleeve shirt, eye goggles, protect your work surface, do not soap around children or pets, etc. You do not want to splash the lye water or fresh soap batter on your skin as it will burn you.

This recipe breaks down into the following percentages in case you want to make a larger batch: 50% olive oil, 30% coconut oil, 10% castor oil and 10% sweet almond oil.
It's also superfatted at 5%. The water discount I use is no less than 2x the amount of lye in the recipe.
